Quote For The Day
Inside some of us is a thin person struggling to get out, but they can usually be sedated with a few pieces of chocolate cake.

Question For The Day

The question for the day is: Say you know how to swim.  And you happen to be walking past a pond when you see a small child drowning.  What do you do?  Do you dive in and save the child?  Do you look around for someone more qualified to stage a rescue?  Cup your hands around your mouth shouting, "I would hate to be you, right about now!" and then go on about your business?

I'm just asking because right now there are a lot of children on the list for bone marrow transplants.  And they are dying.  And, maybe you can throw them a life ring, and haul them onto shore.  Save a life!

Quote For The Day

Life moves pretty fast.
You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

My favorite thing today is saving some pandas!

My son is trying hard to save the pandas.  They are on the endangered list, but it's possible to save them from becoming extinct.  So, my boy has used his allowance to adopt a panda.  His next move is to sell some boxes of used toys and clothes to Once Upon A Child, and donate the proceeds.  I am proud of this little guy and encourage him in his endeavors.  To learn more about saving pandas, click on this link, please.

Not every successful man is a good father.

Quote For The Day

So, my family and I were hiking through a park today and on the tree I saw this message, typed on a piece of paper and hanging by a string tied around the trunk.  I love the message!

Today's mighty oak is just
yesterday's nut that held it's ground.

Be a little nutty.  There's nothing wrong with that.

This Man Is An Inspiration!

If ever there were a person to aspire to be like, then John Wraight is that someone.  This spring the 73 yr. old man set off on a cross-country trek,  ON FOOT!    He is walking along the American Discovery Trail, a non-motorized, 6,800 mile long trail that winds across 15 states.  His journey actually began in 2005, when an exam at the Mayo Clinic diagnosed heart problems.  John was overweight, leading a sedentary lifestyle and knew something had to change.  He started out walking, graduated to running and has competed in several 5ks and 10ks.  Along the way he lowered his weight, blood pressure and bad cholesterol.     Enamored with walking he planned his grand adventure.
This spring he began in Lewis, Delaware accompanied by his 21 yr. old grandson and 3 yr. old dog.  Two states later the dog and grandson turned up lame and had to be taken home.  John has continued on his own.  Near the end of May he was walking the trail in Indiana and averaging 18 to 20 miles a day.  The goal is to finish this fall in St. Louis, Missouri.  He will winter back at home with his wife and dog and then pick back up where he left off next spring.  All this is amazing, but only a fraction of why he is inspirational.  The main reason to find this man impressive is the fact that he is doing this walk in the hopes of  motivating others.  "If people see an old guy like me making a long walk, then maybe they'll be encouraged to start walking too." he says.  To promote heart health awareness he is partnered with the American Heart Association and hopes to raise donations for the AHA.  John Wraight encourages everyone to get out walk, saying "Your heart will love you for it!"

One Enchanted Evening

So, who doesn't love a fairytale? I know I do. Princesses, ball gowns, enchanted evenings and a fairy godmother to bring it all together. What if you were given a chance to be a fairy godmother? Would you take it? Because the Cinderella Project needs some fairy godmothers for their princesses. This is a really good thing. It's a group of volunteers who work with high schools to make life a little more wonderful for girls in need of some magic. They make a night at the prom possible when it wouldn't be otherwise. Also, the girls get some special TLC to boost their self esteem. If you have any dresses, shoes, hair accessories, jewelry, etc. please donate them. If you have any talents to share for the girls please donate it. Turn a girl into a princess for a night!

The Cinderella Project is located all over the United States.

It's A Dog's Life

A week in the life of a dog

Leo and Jesse
Sunday

Jesse
Monday

Jesse
On Tuesday I told Jesse she wasn't allowed on top of the couch. I had no idea she would argue semantics with me

Jesse
It's Wednesday and she's smiling in her sleep

Jesse
Thursday

Jesse, Leo and Echo
Friday and it's time to unwind

Jesse
By Saturday I'm wondering -
why do people say "it's a dog's life" as if that were a bad thing?

The Evolution of an Echo

Puppy Echo
This is Echo when he was little and cute.

Echo\
I love that puppy face!

Echo
He looks dignified here, but he's far from that in reality.

adult echo
I took this two months ago. He loves the snow.

My favorite movie is Sound of Music and so here is a tribute to Maria.

My Favorite Things

Sunlight on roses, gray stripes on kittens

enchanted gardens and no need for mittens

a little boy that likes to dangle by strings

These are just some of my favorite things

Days spent camping and long nights by the fire

Snowflakes that bring all the fun that we desire
Silver white lanes that are built for speed

These are just some of my favorite things

When the dogs won't sleep
When they chew things
and I'm feeling bad

I simply recall these favorite things
and then I don't feel to sad
